Did you ever expect to see a photo like this on my blog?? But today we are talking about Comfort food which may well be a doughnut! Whatever your personal comfort food may be – chocolate, ice cream, a bacon buttie, a nice fresh croissant or your mum’s pancakes with crispy bacon (please delete as appropriate!) – it gives you this cosy feeling.
But if you are trying to loose weight or simply live healthier are you feeling guilty afterwards? How can you manage to have a treat every once in a while but avoid thinking “Oh well, now I’ve blown it anyway – I can as well give up”?
Don’t give up! Simply ask yourself: Have you been good all of last week? Did you eat healthy foods? Did you not overeat? How much alcohol did you consume? Did you do enough exercise? Did you relax actively? Have you been good to yourself?
If you can’t answer yes to all of the above check why you fancy your favourite treat right now? Maybe you are stressed, then treat yourself to a massage or do some yoga or meditate. Or you are simply hungry, then try a new healthy recipe or maybe a healthy sweet treat like the heavenly beautiful caramel bars from green kitchen (find the recipe here). Healthy treats are still delicious and can do the trick.
But if you had a really good week, you feel well and happy with yourself and others, you are strong and full of energy then prepare for your favourite soul food.
And by prepare I mean to make sure that you have only a small portion available – don’t buy a family sized ice cream tub, don’t make a pile of pancakes. Avoid the temptation to overeat! Eat mindfully, enjoy it, eat slowly and cherish every bite. Don’t be distracted by a TV, your phone or anything else.
And then let go. Make yourself aware that this was a treat and even though you deserved it, you will not have it for some time. You go back to your healthy eating routine, do your exercises and enjoy every step of the way.
