A few thoughts about preparation and trust in your abilities

I just returned from the first bike ride in months. I like cycling a lot but I would never consider myself a particularly good rider. My passion is nutrition and I like exercise in general. So for the first ride of the season I wanted to take it easy and looked at a slightly hilly 20k roundtrip, certainly nothing to boast about.

I went well. Very well. I felt great, I rode faster than I expected, and I extended the trip. In actual fact I extended it twice because I thought it was too easy. OK, of course my legs were tired and some of those ‘slightly hilly’ parts were quite hard. But in general, I felt a lot better than I thought I would. What happened?

My preparation paid off. Not yesterday’s foods – ha, certainly not yesterday’s foods: we had guests and we enjoyed Enchiladas and a wonderful salted caramel desert. Yummy stuff but not what I would call the best foods ahead of a ride.

My preparation over the last three months did the job – healthy, varied foods at the right time (and most of the time), protein, carbs, fats in quantities which are right for me; foods high in B vitamins, Omega 3 and selenium; plus a challenging but achievable exercise regime – gym, walking, running, cycling. I make sure that I get enough sleep, I drink lots of water and try to keep my mind as healthy as my body.

And the ride this morning proved my theory that it’s not a single day that will make or break your regime.

It’s what you do most of the time.

Trust your preparation and look after yourself. It’s worth it. Do it for yourself and don't forget to have fun 🙂

    Happy Sunday to you all

Today I’m writing a nutrition plan for a ‘corporate athlete’ who happens to be a keen cyclist, too.

So we will combine sports nutrition to help him become faster and stronger with meal suggestions that keep him focused and productive!

Why do you accept being ‘OK’ when you could feel ‘incredible’?
